The expression “coaching” comes from driving a coach. The coach(man) knows his craft and is aware of conditions ahead. He anticipates obstacles and steers his consignment safely to the destination. He maintains a trusted relationship to his horses, which he leads and paces, supports them when the road gets difficult and provides clear feedback on their actions and behaviors. The horses entrust themselves to the coach, accept his guidance and trust his leadership.  From this analogy, it is easy to see why the word “coaching” was deliberately chosen to represent what coaches do. Coaching is a relationship based on reciprocity, trust and cooperation.

The coach challenges the client to think differently by mirroring and feeding back his observations. The coach may even provoke the client in such ways that the client can overcome his habits and explore alternatives and solutions.

Coaching does not require you to re-invent yourself.  You will not receive clear advice or therapy. Coaching is, in fact, an opportunity for you to rediscover yourself and sharpen your abilities to see a clear route ahead where the route had previously seemed blocked.
